Naughty George

Correct, another blog about George Osborne, but by gosh does he deserve it.

“We’re all in this together” says the Chancellor when it comes to  cuts. However, Channel 4 has just revealed that along with two other Cabinet ministers, he’s avoiding paying tax! Apparently Osborne pays accountants to find loopholes which help him dodge £1.6 million.

“Legal” tax dodges like this cost people like me and you (or perhaps our parents) billions. They mean some of the richest people in the UK get away with paying less tax than the poorest. How can we trust George Osborne to be doing all he can to close tax loopholes when he is using them himself? How can we trust him at all? We already see celebrities jetting off to other countries to avoid tax, and now our politicians are up to similar tricks.

I personally am outraged by this and would like to do something about it. Campaign site – 38 Degrees – is petitioning against Osborne’s tax dodges. Click here to sign the petition to George Osborne – “pay your fair share of taxes, George”. 38 Degrees members voted to campaign against tax dodging, sent MPs thousands of e-mails and designed adverts for our national ad campaign against tax cheats. Now they would like your support to tell George Osborne how the nation feel.

I am a WAG

That’s right, I am a WAG. No I’m not married to a footballer and covered in fake tan, I have joined a campaign – Woman Against George.

Check out this Labour campaign against cuts that “expose how he and the Coalition are not on women’s sides” – Women Against George!

The site uses social networking to show how much support the campaign has and you can link the site on facebok and twitter to show your friends and followers where your loyalties lie and how to join the campaign themselves. It just goes to show how much social networking plays a part in everything now. However, I sometimes wonder if things like this isolates older party supporters and even MP’s. I just thought id put it out there for you to check out – it’s quite an interesting angle on the cuts too!
