Attack of the cyber bullies.

The funeral of 13-year-old school girl Erin gallagher is taking place this morning in Stranorlar, Co.Donegal.

According to the Irish Independent, Erin Gallagher was reportedly found dead by relatives on Saturday night. The teenager had allegedly “warned her tormentors” that she was intending to commit suicide only 24 hours before.

“U prob think it was funny when [I] f**in put a rope round my neck cause of yous [sic],” she posted on friday on ask.fm, an anonymous social networking site. Her comment was reportedly directed at another teenager who had been bullying her.

Erins death is the second in recent weeks to involve an irish teenager who had been the victim of online bullying- Ciara Pygsley, a 15-year-old from Leitrim, was also found dead having recieved abuse through the same website.

Pugsley’s father, Jonathan, told the Irish Independent that he was “completely devastated” that another young cyberbullying victim had committed suicide.

“It is outrageous that this is happening to another young teenager. ‘I’m devastated for that family and heart-broken again’, he stated.

An Erin Gallagher Memorial Walk is to take place around the Twin Towns of Ballybofey and Stranorlar on November 8th next – what would have been Erin’s 14th birthday. The walk is currently being organised by the ‘RIP Erin Gallgher’ facebook page, which has already received over 6000 likes.

The suicide of two irish teenagers as a result of cyber bullying has lead to calls for more mental health and anti-cyber buylling campaigns in schools. The mayor of Dongegal Cllr Frank mac Bearty has called for proper legislation to be drawn up, while Ask.fm creator Mark Terebin has shunned all responsibilty stating ‘Its not about the site, the problem is about education, about moral values that were devaluated lately.’
