Rallying Call From Hibs Chairman

Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie has urged stay away supporters back to Easter Road in the lead up to the January transfer window. In a statement on the club’s website, Petrie thanked season ticket holder for sticking with the team through two seasons of poor performances, however urged fans to come to the remaining six home games, saying they should “Look again and do what they can from within their budget.” Although Hibs sit second in the SPL, just two points behind leaders Celtic, manager Pat Fenlon will hope to add further talent to his team come January. Striker and league top scorer Leigh Griffiths’ loan deal comes to an end in January, and the Leith outfit will hope to make a deal with his parent club Wolves to keep him at the club on a long term basis. Fenlon has already opened talks to extend deals with Griffiths, Honduran international Jorge Claros and former Man City defender and Northern Ireland ace Ryan McGivern. In an interview with Hibernian TV the Irish manager described the trio as “Key to what we’re trying to do.”

Petrie also asked for supporters to consider buying half season memberships, merchandise from the clubstore and by leaving their mark on the new East Stand. The club launched the “East Terrace Scheme” two weeks ago, an opportunity for fans to buy a brick with an inscription of their choice on it. Some fans criticised this move as “money grabbing”, and it’s thought sales are poor.

Hibernian play St. Mirren at 3PM on Saturday, buoyed by last Friday night’s 4-0 victory over Motherwell and eager to take the league’s top spot.
