Hearts Placed Under Christmas Eve Transfer Embargo

The SPL today announced that Heart of Midlothian will be placed under a 60 day transfer embargo as punishment for failing to pay players and coaching staff on time. Six players and manager John Mcglynn were paid late this month, the 6th time during Vladimir Romanov’s ownership that staff and players have received late payment of wages. The embargo, which will last up to and including December 23rd, means the Gorgie outfit will not be able to sign former Tynecastle ace Rudi Skacel, who had been training with the club and was rumoured to be on the brink of signing.

Many Hearts fans have taken to Twitter to urge their team to sign Skacel, who is currently a free agent, on Christmas Eve – the day the embargo comes to an end – as an early Christmas present to the supporters. ESPN commentator Mark Donaldson tweeted, “Rudi Skacel’s left foot wrapped in tinsel making its way down the Tynecastle chimney. Happy Christmas Hearts fans.” Can Skacel wait another two months without a club?

In other capital city team news, the traditional New Year’s Derby has been moved to Thursday January 3rd at 7:45pm for TV rights reason. Hibernian will make the trip across the city to Gorgie in the second derby meeting of the season, and only the second time since last May’s “Salt ‘N’ Sauce” Scottish Cup Final. The last capital derby ended in a 1-1 draw at Easter Road. Hibs will want to begin to claw back some bragging rights following the 5-1 final defeat to their city rivals, while the Jam Tarts will look to remind the Leithers of that fateful day at Hampden. The New Year’s Derby is set to be a winter clash under the Tynecastle floodlights that will get both sets of fans salivating.
