Gary McKinnon saved from extradition to US over hacking charges.

Gary McKinnon, a Scottish citizen is wanted in relation to seven computer related crimes in 14 states of America. With each count carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Paul McNulty, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, says: “Mr McKinnon is charged with the biggest military computer hack of all time.”

However, Home Secretary Theresa May has blocked proposals over his extradition to the US, as she told MPs that this decision was down to medical reports illuminating the dangers that McKinnon may be at risk of committing suicide if sent back to the US. Mrs May also told MPs that she believes this is sufficient enough grounds to keep Mr McKinnon on British turf and feels that to send him back to American would be a clear violation and breach of his human rights.
