Scottish Obesity

By Amy Louise Grant

In recent years, the topic of obesity has hit the headlines of Scottish news, with many different campaigns attempting to encourage more people to change their diets or increase the amount of time they exercise for. Now health food shops are being encouraged to set-up in Scotland, with one iconic American company recently opening in Glasgow.

Hopefully with the novelty of shopping at a higher class supermarket that stocks a wide variety of exotic food, Glasgow will start to see a slight decline in the percentage of it’s community that is classified as overweight. It would be naive to think that a single store could change the way that everyone chooses to shop, but if a select few decide to go there and the store makes a profit then hopefully more health food stores will continue to open throughout Scotland and the health of the population will start to improve.
