Christmas Cheer!

Only 59 days to go people!!!!!
As some of you will know, I am so excited about Christmas that I have a countdown on my phone that I read out to all the girls every Tuesday and Wednesday at Lunch. It also plays out some very cheery Christmas music and it’s safe to say I think they’re all getting a bit sick of it! I get like this every year, as soon as it hits September and the shops start there early xmas decorations everyone in the department store where I work groans, meanwhile I walk around like I’m on cloud nine.
But it got me wondering, why does everyone seem to dread Christmas so much? You get presents, roast potatoes, a day off work, a holiday from Uni, Jesus was born…HELLO! It’s like the best day ever. But yes there are those that hate it. But why? Well after doing some research I found this list of accidents that have occurred on the 25th of December….

– 3 Brits die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their tongue.

– 31 Brits have died since 1996 by watering their Christmas tree while the Christmas lights were plugged in.

– 142 Brits were injured in 1999 by not removing all the pins from new shirts

-58 Brits are injured each year by using sharp knives instead of screwdrivers.

– 19 Brits have died in the last 3 years believing that Christmas decorations were chocolate.

– British Hospitals reported 4 broken arms last year after cracker pulling accidents.

– 101 people since 1999 have had broken parts of plastic toys pulled out of the soles of their feet.

– 18 Brits had serious burns in 2000 trying on a new jumper with a lit
cigarette in their mouth.

– A massive 543 Brits were admitted to hospital in the last two years after opening bottles of beer with their teeth.

– 5 Brits were injured last year in accidents involving out-of-control Scalextric cars.

– In 2000, eight Brits cracked their skull whilst throwing up into the loo.

Hmmm, so maybe not so cheery after all….

  1. Hey Kara! Well yeah I guess all of us know how much u love and yearn for Xmas =D. Nice blog though.

Personally I think that the main reason for loving Xmas and waiting for it is the fact that it gathers family members again at the same table. But sometimes Xmas can be just painful when a family member is missing… so that’s another reason that u can add to the list of why some people hate Xmas.

  2. Haha! This blog fits in nicely with Kelly’s previous blog about being clumsy!

I can’t believe that people try on jumpers with cigarettes in their mouth, and how can you break your arm from pulling a cracker? Hilarious.

I’m like you – I love Christmas! Xmas stock has already come out in BHS – that is my favourite zone to work in! Yummy!

  3. Brilliant blog Kara, those facts are astonishing! “injured by out-of-control Scalextric cars” – say whaaat?! Guessing the injuries are very minor for such an incident.
