1967 (How late is this for news!!) – A film of ‘bigfoot’ is captured in Bluff Creek by Patterson and Grimlin. (There are many sceptics of this tape with some saying the figure is a man in an ape suit. Perfectly believable as I watched the tape.)

1973 – Sydney Opera House officially opens.

1977 – Lynyrd Skynyrd (singers of Sweet Home Alabama) band members are killed in a plane crash in which the lead singer, lead guitarist and backing singer all die, as well as the pilot and a roadie.

1982 – In the UEFA cup game between Spatak Moscow and HFC Haarlem 66 people are crushed to death in the Luzhniki disaster.

1991 – The Oakland Hills Firestorm kills 25 people and destroys 3, 469 homes, causing over $2 billion in damage.

Al Greenwood – Keyboardist of Foreigner (1951), Ian Rush – Welsh footballer, record Liverpool goalscorer (1961), Dannii Minogue – Singer, X-factor judge (1971), Snoop Dogg – Singer (1971), Will Greenwood – England International Rugby Union player (1972)

Grace Darling – English heroine (d. 1842)

Number 1s

Freda Payne – Band Of Gold (1970)

Dave Stewart with Barbara Gaskin – It’s My Part (1981)

Bryan Adams – (Everything I Do) I Do It For You (1991) (This is the first song to hit number on this day that I have ever heard of! And what a song it is – 16 weeks at number 1…needless to say it was this years best seller!)

Spice Girls – Say You’ll Be There (1996)

Nelly and Kelly (Rowland) – Dilemma (2002) (This is one of my favourite songs of all time. No matter what I do ‘oh’ all I think about is you ‘oh’ – or is that wishful thinking that someone will sing it to me??)
